Triskallian Tours' Turtle Protection Project seeks to expose travelers to the plight of endangered sea turtles on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast. Our groups work alongside dedicated volunteers to ensure the protection and survival of these magnificent creatures. Our travelers return home with not only a greater connection to the natural wonders of this earth, but the ability, knowledge and desire to works towards protecting the one planet we have.
The ASVO (Association of Volunteers for the Service of Protected Areas), Buena Vista Sea Turtle Project plays a crucial role in conservation efforts aimed at protecting Sea Turtle populations along Costa Rica's Pacific Coast. Dedicated volunteers work to ensure the protection of these majestic animals through conservation projects, education and research.
Each day our travelers engage in work geared towards protecting nesting sites for Olive Ridley Turtles. Volunteer work includes construction of breeding grounds, beach signaling, maintenance of a hatchery, nightly patrols for nesting mother turtles, recording of data and transfer of eggs to the hatchery and liberation of newborn turtles. Beyond the actual protection of nesting sites, our work is used to help educate local communities and also provide local authorities with information that will help regulate future planning and development of beaches.
Described by Frommers as "one of the most pristine beaches in all of Central America" Playa Buena Vista is an ideal setting for our travelers to live, work and immerse themselves in conservation efforts geared towards protecting this threatened species. Our travelers live in a rustic encampment located directly on this pristine, secluded beach framed by lush, teeming jungle and crashing Pacific Ocean waves. The sparse, eco-friendly camp site is designed to have minimal environmental impact on this secluded beach. To live communally in a simple and sustainable manner that completely engulfs our travelers in conservation efforts and the natural surroundings of this beach helps our travelers truly understand the importance of their volunteer work.
In the time between turtle conservation efforts, our days are spent exploring the natural beauty of Costa Rica. Sea-kayaking, jungle canopy zip-lines, jungle trekking and volleyball and soccer games on the beach are examples of outdoor activities our travelers take part in. These activities are designed to help our travelers gain an even greater appreciation for the natural world around them and the role their volunteer efforts take in protecting our planet.
